Who is MTW?
Marie-Therese has always had a passion for the crafts. She spent many summers of her teenage and college years working in the Pine Forest Art and Craft Centre, Glencullen, Co. Dublin where she taught children and young adults all forms of craft and design skills. On attending the National College of Art and Design she obtained a 1st class degree in design specialising in Metals. After college, she traveled to New Zealand and gained invaluable work experience with goldsmith Peter Deckers and with Enamalist Sally Laing in Taranaki. MTW returned home to Ireland and moved to Kilkenny to continue her training in the C.C.O.I. Goldsmithing and Jewellery Skills course. Marie-Therese remained in Kilkenny where she established her own workshop and is happily creating away.
MTW Jewellery is a Goldsmith – Jewellery designer who specialises in one off commissions. All the jewellery is handmade using traditional techniques by Marie-Therese Walker in her workshop, which is open for visitors, on the Market Slip, Kilkenny. Her work is created using precious metals and carefully selected precious and semi-precious gemstones. MTW also creates a number of limited edition ranges which are for sale at her workshop in Kilkenny.
When commissioning a special piece, an initial meeting is arranged to discuss exactly what it is the customer wants. Marie-Therese will then draw up a selection of designs based on the ideas shared during that meeting. After the design has been agreed upon the work can begin.
